Unilever Haus Hamburg opens for business
Unilever Haus Hamburg’s open, transparent design, multiple meeting points and riverside location aim to inspire creativity and collaboration.
More than just an office building
Unilever House Hamburg, as well as boasting superb environmental credentials, seeks to bring in the outside world, keeping the company as close as possible to its consumers with a public atrium and shops to entice the city's residents.
The building has a Dove Spa, a Langnese (Heartbrand) Ice Café and a Unilever shop to showcase our products to the public.
"We felt compelled to create a space where Unilever employees and consumers could be brought together, giving all visitors the chance to experience our brands," says Michael von Rudloff, Supply Chain Director at Unilever and project construction manager.
Innovative eco-concept
Dubbed "the nicest office in Hamburg" by the city's mayor, Ole von Beust, it is the environmental thinking behind the design that really sets the building apart.
The office is the world's largest building to be equipped with energy-efficient LED lighting. It also boasts a thermo-active cooling system and a heat-recovery system on the roof, while ecologically sound building materials were used to construct the building.
These cost-saving efficiency features have already won the Building Exchange (BEX) Award for innovative and sustainable design. BEX is an international platform made up of leading construction companies and architects.
The new head offices in Hamburg's HafenCity were ready for occupation in June
2009 following a three-year planning and building phase. The new building designed by Behnisch of Stuttgart and covering 30,000 square metres, provides workplaces for almost 1,200 employees.
